INTRODUCING THE NEW BASEBALL SA FUTURES LEAGUE (BSAFL)

We are excited to announce the launch of the Baseball South Australia Futures League (BSAFL), a new baseball league designed specifically for high-level players born in 2006 - 2010. This league will provide a unique opportunity for athletes to showcase their talents, develop their skills, and gain exposure for future opportunities. By participating in this league, our players will have the chance to highlight their abilities on a larger stage, with game footage being shared with universities and professional teams in the United States. This initiative aims to open doors for our state’s top talent, offering them a pathway to further their baseball careers internationally. Additionally, the BSAFL is geared towards helping our Citadel IT Division 1 Senior baseball program become even stronger, as we develop and refine players who will contribute to our success for years to come.

League Overview

- Target Group: High-level players born in 2006 - 2010.

- Player Pool: The majority of players will be selected from our finalised U16 and U18 State rosters. Additional spots will be added through a combination of expressions of interest, club coaching recommendations, and those no longer age-eligible for the Australian Youth National Championships.

- Teams: The league will feature 3 teams, ensuring competitive and engaging matchups.

-  Team Selection: Teams will be selected by the league’s general managers and coaches through a League Draft. This draft will ensure balanced competition and give all players an opportunity to be placed in a competitive team environment.

- Game Schedule: Games will be played Wednesday evenings for seven weeks, starting 6 November and ending with the Grand Final 18 December at West Beach.

Key Features

- Video Coverage: All games will be streamed, providing players with valuable recruiting material to share with scouts and coaches. It will also allow our community and fans from around the world to follow the action.

- Umpires and Scorers: To ensure the highest standards, all games will be officiated by professional umpires and scored by experienced officials.

- Canteen Services: For those attending the games, the canteen will be open, offering a variety of food and drinks to enhance your experience.

- Coaching Development: The league will be run by our state team coaches and performance pathways staff. At the start of November, we will announce the charter coaches for all levels for the 2025 season, and they will be invited to be a part of the coaching staffs of the BSAFL teams. This will provide a valuable learning opportunity and promote growth and development within our coaching community.

“I am thrilled to introduce the Baseball SA Future League (BSAFL). This league represents a major step forward in the development of our young athletes, providing them with a platform to showcase their talents and take their game to the next level, ” say Baseball SA General Manager, James Rawson.

“The BSAFL not only gives players valuable experience through high-level competition but also opens doors for future opportunities—whether it’s playing in the U.S. college system, professional leagues, or advancing through our own baseball pathways.” He went on to say. The program was designed with athlete growth in mind but also ensuring a strong pipeline of skilled players for our Citadel IT Division 1 Senior baseball program and potential Adelaide Giants in the years to come.

“By creating a space where our most talented 19U players can compete, develop, and be scouted, we are investing in the future of baseball in South Australia.”

We invite everyone to come out and support our local talent while enjoying some of the best baseball South Australia has to offer. Be a part of this exciting new chapter in South Australian baseball – we look forward to seeing you at the games!
