ASSOCIATIONS

  • Baseball Australia is the overarching governing body for baseball nationally. They are responsible for overseeing and developing baseball at all levels throughout the country, from grassroots to elite competition including but not limited to:

    • Governance and regulations

    • Development programs such a Little League International

    • National Teams

    • Australian Baseball League (ABL)

    • Promotion and marketing of athletes and the sport

  • The Adelaide Giants the State Baseball team that play in the Australian Baseball League. The Giants were one of the founding teams in the original league which ran from 1989 to 1999. The league went on hiatus until 2010 where they were relaunched as the Adelaide Bite. In 2019 the team rebranded back to the much loved Giants which they remain as today. After 43 years, they have just won back to back premierships.

  • The World Baseball & Softball Confederation are the jurisdiction body of the World Baseball Classic and Premier12 in partnership with Major League Baseball (MLB).

  • Winter Baseball in South Australia had its origins in the late 1960s when the South Australian Baseball League (SABL) made the decision to change its fixtures to become a predominantly summer sport.

    The current format of Winterball sees a multitude of SABL Clubs and independents come together to compete across 4 Divisions (with a North, Central and South League).

  • The South Australian Baseball Scorers Association (SABSA) is an affiliated body of Baseball South Australia (BSA) first formed in 1976 with the objective of:

    β€”promoting the art of baseball scoring

    β€” encouraging, educating and representing scorers associated with BSA

    β€” co-operating with and assisting BSA to maintain uniform interpretation of the rules of baseball scoring.

  • The Baseball Umpires Association South Australia (BUASA) is the Baseball SA affiliate body for baseball umpires in South Australia. BUASA is also an umpiring development resource and is dedicated to representing the interests of umpires in South Australia and always welcomes new members.

  • In 1969 Tom Rice, Norm Yeo & Bruce Rhodes were discussing country baseball in SA and believed there should be a state championship, or as they called it β€œa carnival”.


    The inaugural meeting was held in August 1969 at the Glenelg Baseball Club with the inaugural committee of Tom Rice (GBC Social Club Treasurer), Lloyd McMillan (GBC Committee Member), Bruce Rhodes (GBC Social Club Committee Member) David Mosel (GBC Committee Member) & Norm Yeo (GBC Secretary).
    Letters were sent to Broken Hill, Mt Gambier, Pt. Pirie, Eyre Peninsula, Whyalla, Northern Territory & Mildura centres in August 1969 to get their thoughts and opinion of the concept.

    The first 4 teams to play were Pt. Pirie, Eyre Peninsula, Mt. Gambier and Northern Territory in the Country Championships.

COMMUNITY COMMITTEES

As soon as practicable, after the Annual General Meeting in each year, the board must decide which committees are necessary to carry out duties and functions of the League.

The committees listed here are to come from a combination of stakeholders, but the main source being Baseball Committee delegates.
