JANUARY VOLUNTEER OF THE MONTH

Congratulations to Johnny Russell of Woodville Baseball Club for being awarded Baseball SA's Volunteer of the Month!

Johnny is the definition of a club legend. For over 30 years, he has been the heart and soul of Woodville Baseball Club, taking on countless roles throughout the club. As the long-time Club Bar Manager, he keeps everything running smoothly—organising drinks for the seniors, freezing and sorting ice, and managing recycling. But that’s just the start. You’ll find him running the scoreboard at men’s and women’s games, supporting all levels of the club, and of course, crafting Johnny’s Match Reports!

Beyond his official roles, Johnny’s dedication goes even further. He ensures his son, Timmy, never misses a baseball commitment, whether at Woodville or with the Adelaide Giants. And in a true act of generosity, he collects thousands of can tabs to help create prosthetic limbs—each 3,000 tabs contributing to a new pair of legs.

Johnny’s passion for the game extends to juniors, women’s, and men’s baseball alike. He’s always there, without needing to be asked, giving his time, energy, and support to the club he loves.

Thank you, Johnny, for everything you do!

As Volunteer of the Month, Johnny will receive a $25 voucher for West Beach Social to collect from the Baseball SA office.

Nominations are now open for January!
