NOTICE OF 2024 BASEBALL SA ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

We advise that the South Australian Baseball League’s 117th Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been scheduled to be held on Wednesday, 3 July 2024, commencing at 7:00pm (6:30pm arrival) at Adelaide University Playing Fields, Entry off Burbridge RD.

Any special business submissions for this meeting must be sent to the General Manager (GM) in writing 21 days prior to the AGM, being 12th June 2024.

In accordance with the South Australian Baseball League Inc. Constitution and in line with the By-Laws, nominations are hereby called for the following board positions:

  • President

    The President serves as the primary leader and spokesperson of the Board. They provide strategic direction, oversee board meetings, and ensure effective governance. The President fosters collaboration among board members, represents the organisation to external stakeholders, and works closely with the General Manager and office staff to fulfill the organisation's mission and goals.

  • 3 Elected Directors

We are looking for candidates who fit the following descriptions with relevant qualifications and experience:

  • Oversee the financial management and planning of the organisation. Responsibilities include reviewing budgets, financial reports, and audits to ensure fiscal responsibility and transparency. They provide guidance on financial policies, investment strategies, and fundraising efforts. Give guidance to the General Manager of day-to-day accounting operations.

  • Optimising the organisation’s internal processes, mainly the State, Women’s and Junior Competitions structure. They work to enhance the League’s operational efficiency, ensure efficiency of the by-laws and playing conditions and identify opportunities for improvement. The Operations Manager is also expected to be apart of the permits committee.

  • Focuses on developing and enhancing performance pathways programs, initiatives, and strategies to achieve Baseball SA’s and Baseball Australia’s performance goals. This may involve assessing program effectiveness, analysing data and metrics, and identifying areas for innovation and growth. They can collaborate with the Performance Pathways Manager to design and implement performance improvement plans, monitor progress, and evaluate outcomes to drive continuous improvement and impact.

Nominations for all positions must be in writing, completed and disclose any position or role the nominee holds in a Member Club or Affiliate Member before signing and sending to the GM no less than 21 days before the fixed date for the AGM, being 12th June 2024. Please check the constitutional requirements before submitting your application. Details of received nominations and any accompanying material received will be circulated to voting members 14 days prior to the meeting.

Once again, please note that in efforts to decrease expenditure and environmental impact, the Annual Report will only be provided as electronic copies, available via the Baseball SA website.

DIRECTOR NOMINATIONS

PRESIDENT

NEIL POULTON

Poulton has been involved in baseball since 1984, starting as a player and later umpiring and coaching. He played for Northern Districts and Golden Grove Baseball Club, where he was a founding member and served on the committee. He has a great passion for umpiring which led to working with SABL from 1992, including international events like the Olympics and World Cups. He has held various roles, including Umpiring Director and Technical Committee Chair for Baseball Australia. Professionally, Poulton manages sports roles and now runs Citadel IT, a Baseball SA sponsor.

OPERATIONS DIRECTOR

NATHAN GREEN

Green is eager to join the Board of Baseball SA. With a strong background in youth and senior sports, particularly baseball and cricket, and extensive corporate leadership experience, he is well-positioned to contribute to Baseball SA’s growth. His experience includes managing Junior Pathways Baseball in the US and playing senior-level cricket in Australia and the US. He served as Chairman of Boston's Cavaliers Cricket Club, led finance and operations for a 2,500-employee unit in the US, and is currently working on a major healthcare merger in Australia. Nathan looks forward to supporting Baseball SA's mission

ANTHONY WEATHERSTONE

Weatherstone has over twenty-five years of experience in sports management, starting as an A-grade men's player and transitioning to coaching, where he led teams to multiple championships. He has served as President of the Men's Softball Association, coached the State Men's Fast-pitch team, and recently held a Board Director role at Softball SA. Currently, he is President of the Adelaide Softball Association. Weatherstone has a background in business analytics, customer management, and staff leadership. He posses handy capabilities such as expertise in strategic planning, budget management, team leadership combined with a passion for sports.

PERFORMANCE PATHWAYS DIRECTOR

NATHAN DAVISON

Nathan Davison is a seasoned sports executive with a distinguished career in the sports industry. He is the former CEO of BSA and was recognized as the Sport SA Administrator of the Year in 2018. Davison has also served as the National Development Manager for Baseball Australia. His background includes playing and coaching at the D1 club level and representing Australia. Known for his strong commercial acumen and stakeholder relationship skills, he excels in management, sponsorship sales, scouting, talent identification, and culture-based recruiting. Davison is adept in strategic planning, public speaking, event management, and enhancing fan experiences.

FINANCE DIRECTOR

JOHN LOY

John Loy is a seasoned financial executive with extensive experience in high-growth and change environments. Specializing in corporate finance, he provides strategic financial advisory for market entry, product development, capital raising, forecasting, and risk management. John has expertise in FP&A, cash flow projection, budgeting, project appraisal, finance systems implementation, and profitability segmentation. Known for his ability to manage stakeholder relationships and lead strategic partnerships, he excels in overseeing finance teams, liaising with shareholders, and managing professional development. As a versatile contributor, John brings a wealth of knowledge to what could be his second term on the board, driving sustainable value and industry best practices.
