BAUMER SMASHES TWO DINGERS

WITH SIMON BAUMER PUTTING two bombs over the fence at Lockleys, Sturt overpowered West Torrens 7-4 in division one baseball.
It started at the top of the opening inning, when Mitch Lightbody walked to set up Baumer’s two-run home run, to put the Saints 2-0 up.
The Eagles pulled one back in the bottom of the third, when James McFarlane walked, stole second base and came home on Mason Clavell’s single, to halve the deficit.
Baumer hit his second dinger in the fifth, and then in the sixth frame Sturt exploded with four runs, on two-run hits to Harry Knuckey and Lightbody, for a 7-1 lead.
In the bottom of the seventh dig West Torrens scored a pair of runs, including a McFarlane home run, and one in the eighth, when Jude Barker put one over, to conclude the game’s scoring.
Austin McClure pitched six innings for the win, conceding five hits for six strikeouts.
IN A HUGE SHOCK, East Torrens beat Southern Districts 13-2 at Payneham, in seven innings!
Hits to Mark Stewart and Aiden Lucas, combined with Charlie Ashcroft’s sac fly saw the Redsox grab a 1-0 lead at the bottom of the opening frame.
The Hawks were up to the challenge and levelled the ballgame 1-1 at the top of the third dig, when Jake Campbell singled, stole second base and came home on Tomoya Kamakani’s hit up the middle.
A big two-run hit by Ashcroft in the bottom of the third, after a pair of walks and a Lucas single, saw East Torrens go 3-1 up.
Then the decisive seven-run rally by the Redsox in the bottom of the fourth laid the foundation of their victory.
Kason King and Stewart hit singles, Dalton Probert walked, Lucas hit a three-run double, and after Carter Powell singled and Will Couzner walked, Jay Sanderson smashed a grand slam home run.
There was still some scoring from both sides, but the game as a contest was finished and East Torrens won 13-2.
WOODVILLE SMASHED OUT 13 RUNS at the top of the opening inning to set up its 15-4 victory over Gawler Rangers at Karbeethan, and hold top spot alone.
Through that opening rally, the Senators batted through their line-up twice, with Drew Janssen and Breandan Taheny hitting three run homers, and Olive Hayes and Alfredo Rodriguez collecting two RBI hits each.
After that devastating first frame the game remained even the rest of the way, with Woodville scoring single runs in the second and sixth digs – on an error and Janssen’s second dinger.
Gawler did manage to be respectable late with a pair of runs in the fifth (on two errors and Noah Okeil’s double) and two in the seventh (on Travis Schreier’s two-run hit up the middle).
In an unusual scenario, Rangers’ reliever Luis Verastegui went head-to-head against his brother, Woodville’s AJ Verastegui, who threw a no-hitter over four innings for eight strikeouts.
HENLEY & GRANGE RECOVERED FROM a mid-week loss to South to beat Adelaide 12-2 at West Lakes.
To open the game, the Angels first three batters – Ty Forney, Ben Ganley and Stefan Welch hit singles to load the bases, but only one run scored, on Billy Damon’s sac fly.
The Rams answered in the bottom of the dig, when Jack Partington ran out an infield hit, stole second base and came home on Lou Helmig’s hit up the middle to make it 1-1.
A two-run double by Partington in the second frame saw Henley go 3-1 up, and then in the fourth, three free passes and hits to Luke Trevaskis, Jordan Hodges and Liam Bull saw four runs in, and a 7-1 advantage.
Forney and Damon both hit doubles in the top of the fifth for Adelaide’s second run, but in the bottom of the dig the Rams scored three times, two on Trevaskis’ home run.
To compete the 10-run mercy rule advantage, Jet Clohessy batted a pair of runs in on a single in the bottom of the sixth.
Jordy Grose pitched 6.2 innings for the win, conceding eight hits for five strikeouts.
IT WAS TOUGH BUT Port Adelaide managed to beat Goodwood 5-3 at Semaphore, although it was thanks to a pair of late error.
With the scores tied at 3-3 entering the bottom of the eighth inning, two errors set up Ethan Murphy’s sac fly and Sammy Steigert’s RBI single, for two runs to break the deadlock.
The Magpies took an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second, after two walks and hits to Nick Vasic, Brodie Arriola and Flynn McKee.
It took a while but the Indians finally managed to get back into the game with three runs at the top of the sixth frame.
Henry Wiese singled, Josh Bradley smashed a two-run dinger, and after hits to Cooper Pratt and Bradley Sutton, Griffin Weber was walked to load the bases, and Brodie Heeps was hit by a pitch to force in a run, to make it 3-3.
That 3-3 scoreline remained until Port managed to break through in the bottom of the eighth.
With two innings in relief, Flynn McKee claimed the win, conceding two hits for one strikeout. Darren Fidge was unlucky to take the loss, as he restricted the Magpies to three hits over five frames, for two K2s.
THANKS TO A SOLID PITCHING effort by Jayden Eldridge, Glenelg managed to do enough to beat Northern Districts 4-2 at home.
Eldridge threw eight innings for four hits and eight strikeouts to lead the Tigers to victory.
In the bottom of the opening frame, Jaikob Mathew singled, stole second base, went to third on an error and came home on a passed ball – 1-0 Glenelg.
Then in the bottom of the third, Zane Judd and Elliott Ross combined hits to score another run, and Glenelg took a 2-0 advantage.
When Mathews and Tom Huttunen hit singles, an error proved costly in the fifth, as the Tigers scored again to go 3-0 up.
North finally broke through for a run at the top of the sixth, when Daniel Maguire hit and came home on Albert Dominguez’s double.
In the seventh dig the Reds closed the gap to a single run, after Nick Clifton singled, stole two bases and trotted home on Tom Fraser’s hit.
Glenelg scored the game’s final run in the bottom of the seventh, when Judd singled and Deiken Burnside hit a RBI double.
Starting on the mound for North, Todd Marshall pitched six innings for seven hits and four strikeouts to keep the Reds close.
A LATE GRAND SLAM HOME RUN by Jake Shotton was the icing on the cake in Golden Grove Central Districts 14-2 victory over Kensington at Erindale.
Hits from Daniel Youngblood, Noah Rodgers, Josh Conry and Tyler Green helped the Dodgers score twice in the first inning, while Jett Chenoweth singled, stole second and scored on Youngblood’s hit up the middle to make it 3-0 at the top of the second.
A pair of walks and Will Tanner’s RBI single gave the Cardinals their first run in the bottom of the second, but then the Dodgers answered with a five-run rally, featuring two-run doubles by Rodgers and Brandon Manzella
Kensington scored it last run in the bottom of the third, after hits to Jack Platten and Michael Bishop, and a wild pitch.
Single runs in the fourth (Nick Wallis’ sac fly) and fifth (Shotton’s RBI single), made it 10-2, which remained until the top of the ninth, when two walks and a hit batsman set up Shotton’s grand slam.
From the mound, John Inglis pitched seven innings for three hits and 12 strikeouts in a dominant performance.
