WOMEN’S WRAP UPS - WOMEN’S LEAGUE D1 - ROUND 11
Women's Division 1 Returns with Big Wins and a Comeback Thriller
After a well-earned break over Christmas, Women's Division 1 baseball returned with a bang, as teams hit the field for the first time in 2025. The round saw dominant performances from Sturt and Glenelg, while Southern Districts pulled off a thrilling comeback against Woodville.
Ramsey Powers Sturt to Victory
Bianca Ramsey led the way for Sturt in a commanding 12-2 win over Adelaide. Ramsey went 3-for-4 at the plate, including a double in the second inning, as Sturt's offense clicked from the start. Elisa Gooley set the tone early with a three-run double in the first, followed by another RBI single in the second. The fourth inning saw Sturt pile on five more runs, with Charlotte Lightbody’s three-RBI single capping off a dominant offensive display.
On the mound, Georgia Davis was in control, tossing four scoreless innings while allowing just two hits. Sturt’s patience at the plate was key, drawing nine walks and stealing four bases. Adelaide’s Isabella Hacker was a bright spot, collecting two hits, while Lauren Hatcher and Regan O’Rielley each drove in a run.
Glenelg Rolls Past Kensington
Glenelg made quick work of Kensington, cruising to a 9-2 victory. The Tigers wasted no time, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning thanks to Georgia Kaluza’s two-run single. Glenelg kept the pressure on, capitalizing on walks and errors to extend their lead.
Peyton Daniels dominated on the mound, striking out five over three scoreless innings, while Sydney Horton closed things out in relief. Glenelg’s offense was efficient, with six different players recording hits. Erin Harris was a standout, reaching base three times and leading the team with two RBIs.
Kensington found some success at the plate, with Ruby Pfitzner driving in two runs, but they struggled to string hits together. A solid defensive effort, including a double play, wasn’t enough to slow down Glenelg’s momentum.
Southern Districts Stages Stunning Comeback
Southern Districts overturned a five-run deficit to edge out Woodville 8-7 in a late-inning thriller. Trailing 7-3 in the sixth, Southern Districts rallied for five runs, with Jess Maslin’s clutch double providing the go-ahead RBI.
Maslin was also key on the mound, pitching four innings of relief while striking out five. Offensively, Mabel Parr-Gahan led the charge with two RBIs, while the team showed great discipline at the plate, drawing 12 walks.
Woodville had built their lead thanks to strong hitting from Alice Brown and Indie OHazy-Zschorn, who combined for five hits and three RBIs. The Warriors were aggressive on the base paths, racking up 11 stolen bases, but couldn’t hold off Southern Districts’ late surge.
With the first round of the new year in the books, teams are now back in rhythm and ready for the stretch ahead. Next week’s matchups will be crucial as the race for finals heats up.
